Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Line Party FAQ

1. So… what’s a Line Party? A Line Party consists of a group of fans who turn a movie opening into a gala event so that we’re guaranteed to have a great time the night of. We organize games and contests, get ticket and theater info out to everyone ahead of time, and plan to meet before and afterwards for dinner to schmooze with fellow fans.

2. When is this happening? The movie opens June 4, 2004. The Line Party will take place at the midnight show, that is, 11:59 PM Thursday June 3 / 12:01 AM Friday June 4. There will also be a Pre-Party the evening before, Wednesday June 2, and an Post-Party at 3 AM immediately following the movie.  People will begin to gather at 6PM June 3 in the Common if it’s nice out; otherwise, inside Loews.  Look for the crazy people in Harry Potter costumes, carrying a “Midnight Marauders” banner.

3. What’s up with the Pre-Party? The Pre-Party will be taking place on June 2 at Boston Beerworks on Canal St (NOT the one in the Fenway), 7 PM.  This consists of a meet-and-greet with fans, last minute announcements and organizing, and our HARRY POTTER BOOK DRIVE.  We will also start selling raffle tickets for our CHARITY RAFFLE, more info on that here.  Please bring children’s books with you to the Beerworks to benefit Boston Partners in Education!  Important announcements will be made at 8PM.

4. What about the Post-Party? Those of us who can still stand up afterwards hoof it down to the South Street Diner (on Kneeland Street) and freak out together about the movie over coffee and cheap diner food. If we have a large enough group, they’ll close the diner for us and set up a special buffet. Most of the time, though, people start dropping like flies at that point, so it tends to be a smaller affair.

5. How do I get tickets for this event? We will let you know when tickets go on sale for the midnight show. We are in daily contact with Loews’ staff at this point and as soon as they know anything, we’ll let you know.  We are hoping that everyone in the group will be able to successfully get their tickets this time through fandango or at the theater proper.  Watch here for more info!

6. How many people are going to be there? Loews has indicated that they will be opening up the big theaters for the midnight shows: that means 600+ people.  Our group itself will obviously not fill the whole theater, but those of you who were there for Trilogy Tuesday know that we include the whole theater in our Parties, so it’s sort of like having a 600 person party.

7.  Are we going to be standing in line for the Party, or will they let us into the theater early?  Currently, we have no information from Loews about this.  They tend to dislike large lines inside the Cineplex, so I imagine they will try to let us in early.  Once tickets go on sale and we know which theater we’ll be in, we’ll have more info.  It’s best to come prepared for anything and be flexible.

8.  Can I bring my camera/sword/Dunkin Donuts coffee/rhinoceros into Loews?  No, no, no, and no.  Loews does not allow cameras, weapons or anything weapon-like, outside food of any kind, or large wild animals.  If you are a photographer and would like to bring your camera, please contact me and I will give Loews your name.  A discreet candy bar tucked into a pocket is not going to be a problem; just don’t try to bring a whole pizza or a six pack of cokes.  Especially don’t bring anything Loews sells (coffee, popcorn, soda).

9.  What’s up with the Book Drive?  We are having a Harry Potter Book Drive to benefit our charity, Boston Partners in Education.  Please bring copies of Harry Potter or any beloved children’s literature with you to the Beerworks Pre-Party.  If you would like to donate books but you can’t make it to the Pre-Party, please contact me via email(mariella@exp...)

10. What is The Witching Hour? Is this The Witching Hour Line Party? TWH is a Harry Potter symposium, taking place in Salem Oct 2005, that “will explore the Harry Potter books and culture through academic examination and discussion, as well as through some fun fan convention elements.” www.witchinghour.org This is not an official WH LP, only because their Line Parties are subject to a variety of legal restrictions that we decided we would rather not deal with. We will, however, have WH representatives at our Party, who will be passing out info on TWH and who can be reached for questions at boston@witchinghour.org .

11.  How can I help? Email me (mariella@exp...) and I’ll let you know what’s left to do!  People with high volume printers are especially precious at this point.
