Boston Links

September 3-6, 2004

Searching for things to do, places to visit, hotels to stay?  Try these links.  Here are some of our recommendations of things to see and do in Boston:  The Freedom Trail (especially “Old Ironsides”) for early American History, The North End for the best Italian, and Fenway Park  to see the famous “green monster" while watching the Red Sox.

Boston: Hotels

Your Moot leaders are staying with friends in town for the WorldCon at the Boston Copley Marriott at $144 per night (flat rate single/double/quad). I'm sure there are many WorldCon attendees who are LOTR fans and would love to split the cost of lodging with you. There is a discussion thread on the WorldCon website for finding roommates, but with rooms going fast, you might want to book now (using the discount codes WSFWSFA for a double or WSFWSFB for a quad) and then find a WorldCon roommate. The hotel is located close to shopping and the subway, so getting to the Museum and Boston Beer Works will be easy.

MBTA: The “T”aka the subway
Here’s the rule of thumb for surviving Boston- Don’t drive if you don’t have to!  Boston had the first underground subway in the US, goes almost everywhere and runs from 5 am to 1am.  There is little to no parking available, and what is there is very expensive.  Take our word for it and buy a T-pass for your visit.  Honestly, even our buses aren’t that bad if you need a combo pass to get you where you need to go. AND…THERE IS A FREE SHUTTLE FROM LOGAN AIRPORT TO THE SUBWAY, where you can purchase a T-pass for your stay.
